Orpheus Choir History

Sligo Orpheus Choir has a proud history  founded in 1975 to continue Sligo’s fine reputation in choral singing. Sligo Orpheus Choir has established itself as the foremost choir in the North West for the quality of its performance and its range of programming. The Orpheus Choir is recognised as one of the Sligo's leading choruses, building upon a tradition that combines musical excellence with creativity and innovation.The choir has performed regularly at the National concert hall Has sung Haydn’s Creation with the English Festival Orchestra Conductor Sir David Wilcox at the Royal Albert Hall .The choir and has performed with Ireland's foremost conductors and orchestras it has made many successful T.V. appearances, The choir’s extensive and varied repertoire range from a Cappella to the mainstream choral repertoire.

  • The choir has competed at many festivals throughout Ireland winning major awards at Sligo and Chester. Lighter works are also performed from time to time concerts with the band of An garda Siochana and the Band of the Western Command
